$25 million parking garage being built by St. Jude

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

As the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital campus continues to grow in Downtown Memphis, the good being done within those walls is unparalleled and well-known. Doctors, nurses, lab technicians, phlebotomists and surgeons come and go daily to treat children from the world over while working to eradicate childhood diseases.

And as they come and go, the need to move around easily and park becomes a major factor. To that end, a new 9-story parking garage is being built to accommodate employees and visitors. At a cost of more than $25-million, the 1,600-space garage will rise at 542 Danny Thomas Place on the east corner of St. Jude Place and A.W. Willis.

The lot belonging to a former grocery store at the intersection of Danny Thomas and North Parkway will be used as temporary parking while construction is underway.

As seen in architectural renderings, the façade of the garage with its brown and pink precast concrete will match the color scheme and design of the St. Jude campus. Evans Taylor Foster Childress Architects is the lead on the project and the contractor is Flintco. Construction should be completed within 11 months.

Two existing garages on the campus already hold approximately 2,500 cars and were named by AutoZone. Naming rights for the new garage have not yet been announced.
