MicroPort Orthopedics plans $100 million expansion and 171 new jobs

MicroPort Orthopedics Inc. is planning a $100 million expansion and renovation of its existing headquarters in Arlington that will create 171 new jobs over the next five years. The company will expand its product design and manufacturing capabilities, as well as create a 15,000-square foot medical education facility to train surgeons, sales representatives and employees on their orthopedic products and surgical techniques.
 
MicroPort currently designs, develops, and manufactures hip and knee implant devices in Arlington.

We truly appreciate the support we have received from our state and local officials, especially those working in the Department of Economic and Community Development,” said MicroPort CEO Ted Davis in a prepared statement. “This partnership will allow MicroPort to accelerate plans to build a state-of-the-art training facility to educate new surgeon customers and sales team members, which will contribute directly to our future growth prospects.”
 
The company will begin hiring for new positions in the next few months.
 
Since acquiring Wright Medical Group Inc.’s OrthoRecon division for approximately $290 million last year and establishing itself as the sixth largest multinational hip and knee reconstruction company, MicroPort has hired nearly 100 people and now employs more than 600 people in Arlington.
