Local startup Paper & Clay, a ceramics line created by area artist Brit McDaniel, recently won an Etsy competition for a new large retailer order.

This past week Etsy launched its brand new program, Etsy Open Call. This competition highlights the best of Etsy’s sellers (this year they picked 30 out of 5000 applicants) and pairs them with the style makers of the retail industry. This year’s event, which was held at Etsy’s HQ in Brooklyn, featured Nordstrom, Land of Nod, Walker Art Center, Clementine, and Lou & Grey.

The invited 30 Etsy designers pitched each of their collections to the retailers, and each retailer awarded their favorite brand with a “Golden Ticket” purchase order. One of these winners was Paper & Clay.

McDaniel’s work has been seen in publications and blogs such as Southern Living, Design*Sponge, New York Magazine, Apartment Therapy, and was a runner-up in last year’s Garden & Gun Made in the South Awards. McDaniel graduated from the University of Memphis in 2013 and currently lives in Midtown. She works out of her studio in the Pinch District, located in downtown Memphis.
