MEMFix releases call to vendors

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

MEMFix: Edge is a one-day, community-driven effort to imagine an invigorated Edge District, roughly defined as the area within a quarter-mile radius of the Marshall Avenue/Monroe Avenue intersection. MEMFix events have been used throughout Memphis to temporarily activate streets, blocks, and neighborhoods, creating vibrancy and demonstrating new possibilities for our communities. Because the Edge District is historically known as a place where things are MADE – music, beer, guitars, art, food – this MEMFix will be a celebration of that same spirit.

Livable Memphis and its partners at the City of Memphis and Downtown Memphis Commission will work with the dedicated local businesses, residents, and community stakeholders in the Edge to develop temporary re-designs of Marshall Avenue and activation of various vacant storefronts, while presenting live music, mobile food and retail, and other programs and activities to represent the potential of this area to visitors from Memphis and beyond. They anticipate a crowd of 8,000+ people during the event, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 18 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

“In honor of the Edge’s history and spirit, we’re looking for makers, builders, designers, artisans, and craftspeople of all kinds,” says John Paul Shaffer, Livable Memphis’ Program Director.  “This is a call for vendors – and a call to action. In many ways, the modern Memphis was born in this neighborhood thanks to artists and entrepreneurs taking a chance on something new. We believe this same approach can bring about the Edge’s rebirth.”

Interested parties are invited to download an application and submit to Livable Memphis by September 12, 2014.
