Medical District

Situated between Midtown and Downtown, the Medical District was developed as a central location to serve the healthcare needs of the Mid-South. It employs 30,000 people and educates another 7,800 students each day across its numerous colleges and universities. Recently, the Memphis Medical District Collaborative began work in the area to improve safety, amenities, and infrastructure, including crosswalk updates and a newly installed dog park at Madison Ave. and North Orleans. Through these efforts, the MMDC hopes to inspire more people to live the neighborhood, which rationally been seen only as an economic and employment hub.

UTHSC opens $40M patient simulator center

After roughly three years under construction, the new $39.7 million Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Simulation (CHIPS) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will finally open its doors on May 11 for its grand opening.

Explore Bike Share bicycle rental stations launching soon with more on the way in 2019

Locations around the city for the first 60 bike stations of the Explore Bike Share program have been announced, and the nonprofit has plans more stations and bikes for 2019 and 2020. The 600-bike system, which spans from Downtown, South Memphis, and Cooper Young to Orange Mound, Overton Square, and Crosstown, is moving towards a launch later this spring.

An old building in the Edge District will be getting a new use in the next month, as renovations are underway at 691 Marshall Avenue at a site that had formerly been used as a tire alignment and repair business for nearly 40 years.
