Heart of Memphis neighborhood host arts fest

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

East Buntyn neighborhood of Memphis is gearing up for their annual artwalk on April 18 (rain date April 19) in the historic district bordered by Central and Southern Avenues and Highland and Greer Streets. St. James Church, 461 S. Prescott, will serve as ArtWalk’s hub, hosting live music, a silent auction, food trucks and more.

East Buntyn ArtWalk 2015 is a vibrant celebration of art and community, with homeowners hosting regional artists in their front yards, creating an open-air bazaar of galleries set up around the East Buntyn neighborhood. These al fresco galleries will display and sell work by neighborhood residents, as well as pieces by artists from around the Mid-South, representing an expected pool of over 60 artists.  Works will range the full gamut of media, including watercolors, oil, photography, pottery, textiles, woodworking, jewelry, and stained glass.

The hub at St. James Church is the nerve-center of ArtWalk, where visitors will find free maps pinpointing their favorite artists and their work. This headquarters will also host the silent auction tent, continuous live entertainment, and local food trucks, such as Lickety Split and Rock’n Dough, offering refreshments. The 2015 music line-up features a variety of music, including Nora Tucker, Creepy Neighbor, and Tequila Mockingbird.

This unique arts fair offers visitors the opportunity to visit and engage with local artists while enjoying the hospitality of East Buntyn residents. Guests are encouraged to purchase signature 2015 East Buntyn ArtWalk wine glasses at the hub to use to enjoy complimentary beverages and appetizers at the galleries. The East Buntyn ArtWalk is kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and people-friendly.

Sponsoring partners for East Buntyn ArtWalk 2015 are University Neighborhood Development Corporation (UNDC), Highland Area Renewal Corporation (HARC), and St. James Anglican Church.  Admission is free to all parts of the event.
