Voices of Youth: Defining and refining our community

For the second cohort of Voices of Youth, we sat down with nearly a dozen Detroit teenagers who shared with us their thoughts on what community is and what (as "solutions-oriented journalists") they would like the world to understand about the city where they learn and love.

Youth take the lead in fighting trauma

The youth-led, eastside Detroit organization, Detroit Heals Detroit, opened a healing hub for youth who have experienced trauma. It’s a safe environment to process the stressors young people of color face, with programming designed by youth and for youth.  

On Thursday, Feb. 9, representatives from the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation joined staff from Memphis Housing Authority, along with Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland, to celebrate the opening of the BlueCross Healthy Place at Foote Park.
