Firelands Federal Credit Union breaks ground on Sandusky location

What is it: The Bellevue-based Firelands Federal Credit Union broke ground on a new branch at 325 W. Perkins Ave., Sandusky on May 22. The credit union purchased the property for a full-service, 2,600-square foot branch, which will include two drive-thru lanes, an ATM lane, and complete personal and business banking services, including loans and mortgages.

The branch is slated to open in the mid to late fourth quarter of the year, according to a release from Firelands FCU. This will be Firelands FCU’s seventh branch and its second in Erie County, according to Melanie Myers, communication coordinator for Firelands FCU.

“[The land] is a great location near both [Route] 250 and Route 4,” Myers says via an email interview. “We hope new members find it to be a convenient spot.”

Why Sandusky: Firelands FCU President and CEO Brett Montague said at the May 22 groundbreaking ceremony that Sandusky was chosen for its next branch location because “Sandusky is a vibrant and growing community. The new full-service branch will allow us to provide a wide range of services to meet the diverse needs of the Sandusky community.”

Why Firelands FCU: Firelands FCU is a member-owned, not-for-profit organization, Myers says.

“The credit union belief is PeopleHelpingPeople,” she says. “Any profits made are returned to members through competitive rates, low or no fees, and support to local community-based organizations.”

Myers says Firelands FCU’s staff is available to help members navigate their financial journey and assist with checking and savings accounts, mortgage loans, car loans, credit cards, and more.

“We are ready to help them achieve their goals by offering stress-free banking options,” Myers says.
